Wild Parrots Drop By....

While not as famous as the Telegraph Hill flock, here is a glimpse of a few of the parrots (cherry headed conures, to be specific) that live in our neighborhood...

The different neighborhood flocks are the descendants of pet birds that escaped (or were released by exasperated pet owners - see the link below) into the urban wild many years ago.

Most afternoons you can hear their ear piercing squawking in the distance way before you spot their lime green bodies overhead.

A few weeks ago they decided to swoop down into our neighbor's eugenia trees to feast on the ripe, red berries they probably spied in an earlier fly-over.

These photos were taken leaning a little too far out of our third story bedroom window, otherwise I might have been more concerned with picture quality.....

Here is a link if you'd like to read more about these loud, colorful members of our San Francisco wildlife community...

  1. Love this, very "Tales Of The City".

    Missed you for FITH.

    xo Jane

  2. Was very unhappy about not being able to drop by this week's FITH - tax season has me in its vise-like grip.....

    Oh, the professions we choose!
